API Seals

PPC has a long history of manufacturing API seals, from 1958 until the present.  PPC manufactures its API 682 seals at its main manufacturing plant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Furthermore, PPC welds its own metal bellows seals at this factory, manufacturing both single ply bellows and double ply bellows.

Over the years the refining (oil and gas) industry has constantly worked on improving seal designs, materials, and the performance of the seals. PPC has stayed at the forefront of that progress, always being a leader in: seal designs, adoption of new technologies and the latest materials.

PPC’s manufactures all API 682 Seals: 682A, 682B, and 682C models. Our seal types are developed from our experience in refining, pipelines, and offshore industries combined with our knowledge from the re-engineering of competitor’s designs. We can truly recommend the best design for the application.

  • PPC’s 682 Seal line is manufactured to API 682 specifications.
  • PPC’s 682A is a Type A seal: pusher seal with multiple springs and a flexible element that normally rotates.
  • PPC’s 682B is a Type B seal: metal bellows seal with the flexible element rotating, secondary seals are o-rings.
  • PPC’s 682C is a Type C seal: metal bellows seal with a normally stationary flexible element, secondary seals are flexible graphite.
  • All API 682 Seals are easy-to-install cartridge designs with registered fit
  • All API 682 seals are balanced
  • All seals are designed per application.
  • Throttle bushings available, including segmented spring-loaded carbon bushings
  • Multi-port injection available for optimized distribution of flushing liquids
  • A pumping ring is standard when utilizing API Flush Plans 23, 52, 53A, 53B, 53C

In addition, PPC produces the latest technologies in non-contacting gas lift off seals, contacting gas seals and diamond face seals:

  • Contacting Wet (CW) seals: seal design where the mating faces are not designed to intentionally create aerodynamic or hydrodynamic forces to sustain a specific separation gap.
  • Non-Contacting (NC) seals (wet or dry): seal design where the mating faces are designed to intentionally create aerodynamic or hydrodynamic forces to sustain a specific separation gap.
  • Containment seals (CS), are either contacting or non-contacting seals mounted into the seal chamber.
  • Diamond faces can be incorporated into any of these designs to further increase your seal life.

682A Pusher Seals

The 682A Series of cartridge seals represent a range of seals produced by PPC to meet the criteria of the Type A design under API Standard 682. These designs are balanced, internally mounted cartridge pusher seals with multiple springs and O-ring secondary sealing members. Designed as Category 2 seals per API 682, these designs are fully compatible with API 610 pumps. Per API 682, the standard seal designs feature a rotating flexible element (springs), with the option of stationary spring designs as warranted by the application. Under the API Standard, the seals are applicable to process temperatures up to 350 °F (176 °C) and pressures up to 600 psig (40 bar g), although the PPC engineered seals are capable of more demanding service conditions.

682A Series seals may be provided in all three API Arrangements (single, tandem, double), and are available in custom configurations.

682B Metal Bellows Seals

The 682B Series of cartridge seals represent seals produced by PPC meeting the criteria of the Type B design under API Standard 682. These designs are balanced, internally mounted cartridge non-pusher seals with a flexible metal bellows element and static O-ring secondary sealing members. Designed as Category 2 seals per API 682, these designs are fully compatible with API 610 pumps.

Per API 682, the standard seal design features a rotating flexible element (metal bellows), with the option of a stationary bellows design. Under the API Standard, the seals are applicable to process temperatures up to 350 °F (176 °C) as an option to Type A seals for applications where a metal bellows provides increased performance over a dynamic O-ring.

682B Series seals may be provided in all three API Arrangements (single, tandem, double), and may be configured to suit individual applications.

682C High Temperature Metal Bellows Seal

PPC’s 682C Series of cartridge seals are a complete line of high temperature seals meeting the criteria of the Type C design under API Standard 682, completely manufactured by us at our corporate facility in Baton Rouge, LA. These designs are balanced, internally mounted cartridge non-pusher seals with a flexible metal bellows element and static graphite secondary sealing members. Designed as Category 2 seals per API 682, these designs are fully compatible with API 610 pumps.

Per the latest API 682 publication, the standard seal design features a stationary flexible element (metal bellows) for Arrangement 1 (single) seals. Under the API Standard, the seals are applicable to process temperatures up to 750 °F (400 °C), although engineered designs may be suitable for even greater temperatures.

682C Series seals may be provided in all three API Arrangements (single, tandem, double), and may be configured to suit individual applications.
